The charm of a ghost town

Consonno must have been the project of an eccentric industrialist, Count Mario Bagno , who, in 1962, wanted to transform this small village of Consonno into a gaming mecca. Away with all the inhabitants, down with the few buildings: make way for the slot machines, there must have even been a racing circuit. The entrepreneur, however, had not come to terms with nature. In 1976 Consonno was isolated from the rest of the world due to a landslide; that the village that dreamed of becoming Las Vegas was transformed into a ghost town. this Consonno, a town on the Brianza mountain, Lecco, of which only a small church remains, the church of San Maurizio with the adjoining chaplain's house and the cemetery .

History

One of the most evocative villages in Lombardy is Consonno. Its history is very ancient, the first traces of its existence date back to 1085, the year in which a parchment is dated. The life of the village went quiet until it was bought by Count Mario Bagni that demolished the stones of the village to build an amusement park. but, this land of toys, has become a ghost town, as in 1976 a landslide isolated the village, bringing it to decline. Today Consonno is a ghostly place, it has turned into a ghost town. there is a legend to tell; in the village, on some winter evenings, the silhouette of a man can be glimpsed in the fog, this is probably the ghost of Mario Bagni, condemned to wander around the town.

To be seen

Of the ancient village today, only an ancient church remains, the Church of San Maurizio, with the adjoining chaplain's house and the cemetery. To reach this mysterious place you have to take a road in the woods. all of a sudden you find yourself in front of a bar. Fortunately, in recent years, thanks to an association of people, "the friends of Consonno" have opened the doors of the village every Sunday and on special occasions. and a small bar is set up to cool off.
