The most beautiful villages in the Aosta Valley

The Aosta Valley

Valle d'Aosta is the smallest region in Italy, located in the north-east of the country, famous for having the largest number of Alpine peaks above 4000 meters and for the only 4000 (The great paradise on the Piedmontese border) exclusively in Italian territory. The region is crossed by the Dora Baltea river, which runs through the wide valley carved out over the centuries by glaciers and which flows into the Po. The most beautiful villages are: Bard, Étroubles, Antagnod, Arnad and Avise.

Bard

BARD , a municipality in the Val D'Aosta, characterized by its medieval centre, famous for the historic fort , which houses the main ALPS MUSEUM.
Walking through the streets of the village you can breathe an authentic air of yesteryear that is even more suggestive during the various events organized throughout the year, such as the illuminated nativity scenes, parades in medieval costumes and numerous food festivals. Next to the magical Berd there is the small town of Hone to visit, famous for its green areas equipped for families.

Grassoney

Gressoney Saint Jean is located in Val d'Aosta. The village is very small and can be visited easily in a couple of hours.
Stroll through the small streets passing by the two main squares, Ober platz, the main square, a few meters from the church dedicated to San Giovanni Battista. The church has a simple facade and to the right of the main door there is a bronze bust of Queen Margherita of Savoy. One cannot fail to notice the church bell tower which rises above the roofs. The village is surrounded by ancient 17th century houses, the typical Walser houses, built in stone and wood with balconies that were used to dry the hay.
The Walser are a population of Germanic origin who during the Middle Ages went as far as this valley, in search of new pastures for their livestock. In Gressoney there is the Walser cultural center.
A short walk from the town center is Lake Gover, a green body of water that reflects the mountains. A perfect place for peace of mind and body, to rest and sunbathe, thanks to the large lawn and playground you can have fun with the whole family
